MDGC SOCIAL DAYS 2025
Social Days are the mainstay of the MDGC calendar, where most new players get their first experience of organised events. We split the year into two seasons (Feb_Jun and Jul-Nov), with 15 Social Days in each season; 3 per month, rotating around 7 different courses across Melbourne. Typically we get 30 – 60 players at each one, ranging from complete beginners to professionals, young kids through to those who’ve been playing for decades. All social days are free for club members and first-time players ($12 otherwise).
We aim to make social days welcoming and friendly, and a great place for new players to come and learn the rules and pick some tips from more experienced club members.
This page should tell you everything you need to know about how to get started, but if you have any questions then drop us a note at socialdays@melbournediscgolf.com and we will try to help.
A couple of highlights for the season this year are the return to the Stony Creek course in Yarraville on March 1st, and the second Wild West Shootout on April 6th – this is collaboration with Ballarat Disc Golf, where you can follow up your Social Day round in Melton with the Ballarat League Day at Mount Xavier, with a combined leaderboard and prizes across the two rounds.
Social Day Dates
A social day involves playing a round of 18 holes, which generally takes 2 to 2½ hours. Usually we have an early round starting at 8am, and a later one at 10:30am – you chose which time suits you better when you register. Normally we play in groups of four, so if you want to play with a friend you can, but there will also be someone experienced in your group to show you around.
Typically we run three social days each month, alternating between Saturdays and Sundays:
- First weekend of the month – West (Yarraville, Melton or Werribee)
- Second weekend of the month – Southeast (Chelsea or Clarinda)
- Third weekend of the month – East (Doncaster or Wantirna South)
Occasionally we will change the rotation to avoid a clash with tournaments. You can check the calendar on the MDGC website or the Metrix app to see the dates:
Registration through Metrix
Metrix is the website / app that we use for Social Days, both for registering to play, and for scorekeeping on the day. In order to register, you will need to create an account (if you’re registering on behalf of someone else then you’ll need to use an account in their name). Then go to the page for the current season, select which day you want to register for, and click the “Register here” button in the top right: https://discgolfmetrix.com/3195658
Note that you will need an Australian Disc Golf Number – this is required for insurance purposes, but it’s free to register: Join | Australian Disc Golf
Metrix will automatically put you in a division, based on your rating (see below).
Divisions, Ratings and Prizes
Once you have played three rounds, Metrix will calculate your rating based on your scores. Your rating will continue to be automatically adjusted after every round you play.
Social Days have 5 different divisions, based on your Metrix rating and whether you are a club member:
- Div A – Members rated over 890
- Div B – Members rated from 815 to 890
- Div C – Members rated below 815
- Div X – Members who don’t have a rating yet
- Div Z – Non-members (any rating)
At every social day, there are 6 prizes up for grabs, each of which is a $25 voucher for the MDGC shop where you can use them to buy discs, pay for entry to club events etc. These prizes are:
- 3 x handicap prizes – one each for Div A, B and C
- 3 x CTB (closest to the basket) prizes – one each for Div A, B and C. Div X and Z players are also eligible for the Div Z CTB.
Ace Club
There is an optional Ace Club, which pays out a cash prize to anyone who is in the club that get an Ace (a ‘hole in one’) at a social day. We have already had one Ace at the first SD of the season, which won $240 for Aidan Howard.
The Pot is topped up at each event, and will payout for any ace up to a maximum of $500. (Note that if there are multiple aces at a single social day, the pot will be shared. The $500 cap also applies in this case too – if two people ace then they can win a maximum of $250 each).
Sign up for the Ace Club here: 2025 Ace Club Membership | Melbourne Disc Golf $30 covers you for the calendar year i.e. up to 30 social days.
Social Day Season Leaderboard and Prizes
There is also a leaderboard for the overall season, which takes your best 8 results (out of a potential 15). You can find this on the Metrix page linked above. This is a ladder for all divisions combined, there’s no Div A/B/C for the season ladder.
As in previous years, there will be prizes for the top finishers on the ladder, as well as for the top female players. Note that one new rule for this year is that you must be a MDGC member, and play 5 rounds or more, to qualify for these prizes.
