The occasionally annual Westgate Cup was held last weekend under ideal conditions at Bald Hill Park Disc Golf Course in Clarinda. Geelong was represented by Patty Robinson, Ryan Budge, Jarreth Sweetten, Dylan Feldman, Tim Bohan (c), Andrew Ferguson, Cassie Sweetten and Toosje Frequin while the Melbourne team comprised David Perry, Darren Stace-Smith (c), Chris Ronalds, Oscar Fehlberg, Dylan Spangenberg, Mat Adams, Jay Ros and Emma Winkworth.
Melbourne and Geelong disc golf teams for the 2020 Westgate Cup
Both the morning and afternoon rounds were played in a match-play format with four singles matches, a best-lie doubles and an alternate-throw doubles. After the morning round, Melbourne led six points to four and had the Geelong team worried that they may lose the much cherished Westgate Cup but in the afternoon Geelong stormed back to retain the cup albeit with a much closer score line than the previous encounter. The final result being 14 points to 11. Well done Geelong
Those who did not make it on one of the teams also had the opportunity to battle it out with a similar match-play format. We had three divisions, each with three competitors. Division winners were Jeff Brunsting, Terry Bohan and Patrick Utri.
